Introduction

Do you want to mark out each tract in a special way to clearly distinguish from each other? Customization tools allow your project to really stand out on the map. In every project there are three ways to freely change and customize the colors of the tracts.

Define the color of the category

As you already know, we have three tract categories: sections (qq-sections, q4-sections), allotments and custom shapes (rectangle, circle and shapes). For each of these categories, the user can define their own color preferences. Changing these will change the colors for all previously added tracts and all tracts that are added later.

To define new colors for categories, click "Project settings" in settings menu. The "Project settings" window with three tabs will be displayed Figure 1. Select the "Categories" tab. Notice the preview rectangle for every category based on its current color and border settings.

Click "Edit" next to a category and the "Edit category" window will open Figure 1. To change the color of the border, click on the "Border Color" and the color palette will be displayed, select the color by clicking on the selected place on the palette or typing the HTML color hex code. Do the same in the "Background Color" to change the background color. Move the slider to change the width of the border, or change the size in the window by manually typing in the setting or using the button at the end on the right side of the "Width" bar to toggle up or down. Confirm changes by clicking "Modify" and you will then return to the "Categories" tab in the "Project settings" window. Click "Save" to save the changes.

Defining the color of the class

If you do not want to change the color of all tracts from a given category then you can use the tool to customize the color for each class. Remember class allows the user to group together and track a class of farm ground (For example, pivot versus dry ground). It’s also useful if you would like to have a common color on tracts from different categories. You can define as many classes as you need. You will then be able to assign these classes to individual tracts from your project. As a side note, this is a nice way to estimate acreages contained within a certain class. For example, treat owned and leased ground as separate classes.

Several classes are already defined in our application. To define new color classes, click "Project settings" in settings menu. The "Project settings" window with three tabs will be displayed. Select the "Classes" tab Figure 2. Click "Add class" on the bottom left and you will see "Add new class" window. Name the class in the "Class name" field. Color and border settings are the same as in edit category window. To confirm changes, click "Add" and you will then return to the "Class" tab in the "Project settings" window. Click "Save" to save the changes.

All defined classes can be seen in the list of classes in the "Classes" tab in the "Project settings" window Figure 3. You can freely change all parameters (name, border color, background color and width) of the previously defined class by clicking the "Edit" button next to the class you want to change. You just have to remember to confirm the changes by clicking the "Modify" button. You can also delete the selected class at any time by clicking the "Remove" button. Always after making any changes to the classes click "Save".

Changing the color of a single tract

To change the color of a tract, click on the tract on the map or in the tract list on the left. On the map you will see the tract information window and the "Change" button in it. Next to it you can find preview the current tract color Figure 4. Here you can also find information about the color used. Is it defined in categories and to which category this tract belongs, eg: "Default allotment, section or custom shape". Or if the class is used, then the description will look like this: Class: "class name". And if the Color is changed with the "Set custom" tool, the "Custom" will be display next to the preview. To change color of the tract click "Change" on the tract window and the "Color for tract" window will be displayed. Here you have three options to change the color of tract.

Quickly define the color of the tract by checking "Set custom". If you choose the "Set custom" option, you can use the same color and border settings as for categories and classes. When you click "Save" the changes will be applied only to the current tract.

Assign one of the predefined classes to the tract. Check the option "Select a class from the list" and choose a class from the drop down list. Click "Save" and the color of the tract will always be the same as defined for the class. If you click “define” link then you will be able to define a new class in the same way as in the setting dialog.

Return the settings to the default color settings. Check the "Reset to default" option, click "Save" and the tract color will change to the one currently defined for its category.
