Introduction

Sometimes you want to draw the area on the map, to mark out a pivot or field, and not use an area that is predefined as a shape in the database, including a BLM allotment or PLSS quarter section. If you want to draw your own area on the map, you can use several tools from the drawing menu at the top of the map.

Drawing circles "Draw a circle"

Your area is not defined but has a circle shape? It's not a problem, you can draw any circles on the map and add them to the tracts.

If you want to add a circle such as the pivot above, select "Draw a circle" Figure 1. Select a place on the map to be the centre of the circle, click and drag the cursor to the desired size. When your circle has the desired shape, release the mouse button and the area will be added and placed on the tracts list.

Drawing rectangles "Draw a rectangle"

Do you have to add an area that is not defined but has a rectangular shape? We have a tool that allows you to easily draw rectangles.

If you want to draw a rectangular area, select "Draw a rectangle" Figure 2. Select a place on the map, which will be one corner of the area, click and drag the cursor to the desired size, release the mouse button, and the area will be added and placed on the list of tracts.

Adding your own polygons "Draw a shape"

Do you want to add an area that is not defined, is not a rectangle, and does not have a circle shape? We have a tool for you to manually mark selected areas.

If you want to create a polygon with irregular shapes, select "Draw a shape" and start drawing on the map Figure 3. Click on the map where the first corner of your polygon is located. By clicking on the next vertices you will create lines that these vertices will connect. Double-clicking on the last vertex causes the first vertex to be connected to the last one closing the created area into a polygon and placing it on the list of tracts.

This process can be done in reverse with drawing a hole out of an existing shape. Click on make a hole and it will cut out a custom shape from your tract. See the hole drawing guide.

Adding lines "Draw a line"

Do you want to add a line? We have a tool for you to manually adding lines.

If you want to draw a line, select "Draw a line" and start drawing on the map Figure 4. Click on the map in place where want to start draw, it will be first point of your line. By clicking on the next places you will create lines that these points will connect. Double-clicking on the last point causes finishing your line and placing it on the list of tracts.

On lines you can not use drawing hole tool.

Information label with drawing parameters.

When you use the Draw a shape tool, you can see that a yellow window appears in the upper left corner, in which you can see three values:

  • Distance Figure 5

The distance between the beginning and the end of the currently drawn line is measured in feets or meters.

  • Heading Figure 6

Information in which direction of the world (N, S) and at what angle you draw, it is expressed in degrees.

  • Area Figure 7

The area of your polygon expressed in acres (ac) or hectares (ha).

The yellow window will disappear when you finish drawing.

Changing units

The area and the distance can be specified in two different units depending on your choice. To change units click Settings and select Account settings Figure 8.

In the Display tab you will see "Display unit system" Figure 9 Select Imperial and the application will use feets and acres (ac) units if you choose Metric your units will be meters and hectares (ha).
